Academy Overview
Welcome to the Newcastle Falcons Academy section. Our philosophy as a club has always been that the 'person' is more important than the 'player' and for those who are invited into the Academy, we promote both social and educational development alongside rugby development.
We are proud of our track record in bringing local players through the Academy system and into the first team squad and as our programmes evolve to meet the changing needs of elite players, we are confident that our region will continue to be a breeding ground for top class rugby players.
The Newcastle Falcons England Rugby Academy is one of 14 similar academies based around the country. The programme was launched nationally in 2001 with each of the 12 Premiership clubs plus two other sites being afforded a geographical service area from which to identify and develop the most talented young rugby players in England.
The scheme is run by the Elite Department of the Rugby Football Union in line with the World Class Performance Plan and is delivered on a local basis by the individual professional clubs. The regional Academy programme sits alongside the representative playing pathways and is athlete centred, development driven and competition supported.
"Helping realise dreams of becoming international players of the future"
Each regional Academy is accredited with an academy license based on their ability to foster an environment conducive to player development and the underlying principles are to provide opportunities for players to fulfil their potential at an elite level and realise their dreams of becoming professional and international players of the future.
A word from the Captain
"Since I have been at the club I have seen a number of Academy players gain first team experience. These are not just players who have come through the England age group system but also those who have developed by playing with the strong regional club set-ups. Their development has been quicker with the excellent coaching but also the exposure to first team training that they would not get with many other premiership clubs. It is vital that young players are developed from the region to play at the highest level and the fantastic support we have here will continue to identify with them."
