Van der Heijden hungry for success

Giant Kiwi lock-forward Andrew Van der Heijden is urging Falcons fans to get right behind the club for Sunday's LV= Cup clash against Exeter Chiefs.

The 26-year-old who was snapped up on a two-year deal last November believes a partisan Kingston Park crowd is just what the club needs to secure victory over their West Country counterparts.

“The Kingston Park crowds have been fantastic at every game I’ve been to so far,” said the New Zealander.

“It should be a really good atmosphere on Sunday and it would be great if we could see a few more fans down for Sunday’s game. I’m really looking forward to the game and I can’t wait,” he said.

And with the Falcons just three games away from lifting the LV= Cup and the subsequent reward of Heineken Cup rugby for next season, Van der Heijden insists success is what a club of Newcastle’s stature should be achieving.

“Everybody is ready and up for this game. The guys have been training really hard this week and there is no reason why we can’t achieve some success here,” he said.
