Newcastle Falcons pair Hall Charlton and Jamie Noon have both made the cut for the 30-man England squad, as they prepare to face Canada at Twickenham next Saturday.

Both had been named in the 40-man squad, and with coach Andy Robinson reducing his squad this week, have been retained as preparation for the Test moves up a gear.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby, Rob Andrew, said: “Both of them have done extremely well for us over the last few years, and I’m delighted that they now have this chance with England.”

Both Noon and Charlton will be involved for the Falcons as they travel to Sale Sharks on Friday, with Noon starting and Charlton taking up a place on the bench.

England coach Andy Robinson said of his squad after the announcement: "I'm impressed by the quality of players in this group of 30 for the Canada week, and each and every one of them will be pushing for a place in the final 22.

“Naturally it's disappointing to have to factor in some of the recent injuries, but that's what happens in sport.”

England captain and Falcons fly half Jonny Wilkinson will miss the Canada match, and Robinson said: “Jonny is responding well to the treatment for his upper arm injury, however this injury means I will be announcing a new name as captain for the Canada game, next Monday. I will be giving very careful consideration when deciding who should captain England in Jonny's absence.”
