RFU Statement

The RFU Legal Officer has now reviewed all of the papers submitted by Newcastle Falcons, Northampton Saints and the referee Nigel Owens concerning the substitution of Kieran Brookes and the comments made by Paul Moriarty, assistant coach of the Newcastle Falcons, at half time in the game at Franklin's Gardens on October 30.

The RFU is comfortable there was not a breach of IRB Law 3.12 concerning front row replacements and will not be taking any further action against the club or its officers.

However, the RFU is concerned over the comments made by Mr Moriarty on live TV during the half time break and felt that they were misleading and could have been construed as signalling an intended breach of IRB Law 3.12 . Mr Moriarty has therefore been asked to attend at the chambers of the RFU Disciplinary Officer Judge Jeff Blackett at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday, November 8 to explain his comments.
