Driving grassroots rugby at the Newcastle Falcons Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup

Fast approaching is the Newcastle Falcons Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, which provides local under-12 and under-11 teams with the opportunity to get involved in one of the country's leading grassroots tournaments.

Participating players at the festival will also get the chance to meet some of the Newcastle Falcons players, who will be supporting the teams and offering coaching tips in between games.

The winning sides will embark on the Land Rover Parade of Champions at half-time of the Aviva Premiership Rugby final in May.

Land Rover Ambassador Tom Croft encourages local teams to get involved, saying: “Some of my best memories of rugby come from when I was playing in grassroots tournaments such as the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, and all professional rugby players started somewhere, with most beginning their careers at similar style tournaments to this.

“They are fantastically supported and well-run, providing players with a superb platform to show-case their skills and potentially go home with a cup and title of regional champions! It’s key that companies such as Land Rover continue to get behind and support national festivals such as the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, so that aspiring players have the chance to develop and benefit from opportunities such as these.”

Rugby is continuing to thrive at the grassroots level of the game, and this is thanks in some part to company’s such as Land Rover. Three years ago Land Rover, in conjunction with Premiership Rugby, launched the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, a national grassroots tournament for under-12 and under-11 teams.

Since the inception of these tournaments, 21,000 children have taken part from all over the country. So support the young stars of your local clubs, who are all battling it out for regional recognition and also for an incredible prize – to be applauded by an 81,000 sell-out crowd at the home of English rugby – Twickenham.
