GREGGS TASTE GREAT WITH FALCONS SCHOOL FUN DAYS

The Falcons Community Foundation has teamed up with Greggs to run Falcons fun days in six lucky schools across the region.

The scheme aims to provide primary schools with a whole day of fun activities for the pupils to enjoy. A typical session begins with an assembly with Community Coaches Gavin Beasley and Dan Simpson and our very own Flash the Falcon. Groups from reception class to Year 6 are then provided with an introduction to rugby with an emphasis on enjoyment and encouraging physical activity.

Newcastle United Foundation and Newcastle Eagles Foundation are also taking part in the scheme which will result in a total of eighteen schools taking part. The Schools participating in the project are also a part of the Greggs Breakfast Club initiative. This programme provides a free breakfast for primary school children in areas of particular social disadvantage. The programme has been shown to contribute to improved attendance and classroom performance and to strengthen the partnership between schools and the community in which they operate.

Falcons Community Manager, Melanie Magee said; “We are delighted to team up with Greggs to provide these activities in local schools. We are always seeking to engage youngsters in physical activity and leave them with a positive impression of sport and healthy living. The partnership with the Greggs Breakfast Clubs is a perfect fit!”

The six lucky schools taking part in the Falcons arm of the project are Hilton, St. Anthony’s, Wellbeck, Beech Hill, Hawthorn and North Fawdon. Pictured are children enjoying one of their sessions.
