LIFE'S A BEACH FOR PERCY PARK PIRATES

Almost 200 touch rugby players descended on Tynemouth Beach yesterday for the Falcons Community Foundation Competition. Teams from as far away as Aberdeen braved the “brisk” conditions to play in the annual Festival.

Teams were divided into groups in the morning to play the qualifying games. Percy Park Pirates, Onyx Barbarians, and Blackadders won their respective leagues and were joined by Ward Hadaway who were the best runners-up to play in the semi-finals. In two very closely contested games, summer league winners Blackadders and Percy Park Pirates made if through to the finals.

Percy Park Pirates managed to edge out their North Tyneside neighbours in a game which saw two very talented sides compete in front of a crowd of beach goers including Falcons stars Ryan Shortland and James Fitzpatrick.

The beach event concludes the Falcons Summer of Touch Rugby. Now in it’s tenth year, the events continue to attract teams from a wide variety of work places, friendship groups and sporting clubs.
