As Newcastle Falcons A Team prepares to take to the Kingston Park Stadium field again this Monday, against Sale Jets, Todd Clever has been giving his thoughts on the campaign so far.

USA international Clever captained the side during their last Aviva A League home fixture against Worcester Cavaliers, a game which the Falcons dominated, winning 72-22 overall.

Speaking ahead of the A Team’s third fixture in the competition, Clever said: “We had a good result in the last game and to put 75 points on our opposition was very exciting.

“The younger guys in the team really stepped up to the challenge and made good on their push to be seen and keep progressing here at the club.”

However the younger academy players weren’t the only ones to play a part in the last A League fixture, Clever one of seven full internationals to take to the field for the Falcons that evening.

And for Clever, a long-term captain of his national side, leading the team was second nature.

“The coaches want me to take on some sort of leadership role here and I won’t shy down from that. I’m here to improve my own game and to add value to the team however I can.”

“It’s good for the younger guys too to have the more experienced players alongside them. I remember when I was up and coming some of the big names I was able to play with in the Southern hemisphere and that was an honour, but a great help too.”

With the Falcons currently sat at second place in the Aviva A League table, the team will be looking to pick up the necessary points to topple league leaders Gloucester United.

Monday’s match kicks off at 7pm at Kingston Park Stadium, with entry to watch the game from Kingston Park Stadium’s East Stand completely free of charge.
