Newcastle Falcons are delighted to announce that the position of Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach has recently become available. Working in a dynamic and flourishing environment, the successful candidate will take a lead role in planning, delivering and reviewing all strength and conditioning elements of the Academy in line with the clubs physical development protocols. The main focus of the role is on individual player development from the ages of 12-24.

**Job title:** Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach

**Reports to:** Academy Manager

**Purpose of role:** To plan, deliver and review all strength and conditioning elements of the Academy in line with the club’s physical development protocols. The main focus of the role is on individual player development.

**Key responsibilities and deliverables:**

1. Oversee and plan the strength and conditioning element of the academy programme in conjunction with other members of coaching staff
2. Manage and deliver individual physical development programmes for all registered academy athletes with regular coaching and feedback, visiting off-site where necessary
3. Provide individual development plans for all EAPs within the academy
4. Complete regular fitness tests with all academy athletes and keep up-to-date records of the development and progress of each athlete on a daily basis
5. Attend all academy training sessions and fixtures, including the A-Team, providing warm ups to all field-based sessions as required by coaching staff
6. Plan and deliver return to play programs for injured academy players
7. Act as a first point of contact for players for all advice and information regarding nutrition
8. Manage academy S&C coaches’ and interns’ program of work
9. Provide wider education to players, their support networks and the rugby community regarding physical development and best practice (via seminars and workshops)
10. Assist with first team squad S and C programme delivery as required by the Head of S and C, provided it does not clash with Academy duties

**KPI’s:**

– Progress in fitness test scores, body composition and improvements in on field performance
– Up to date record keeping and monitoring on each athletes Individual Development Plan
– Quarterly report for presentation to the Academy Management Board
– Feedback from players/stakeholders on quality of service provided

**Desirable Qualifications:**

– Minimum UKSCA Level 3 Qualification (or equivalent)
– Educated to degree level in a relevant field
– Full UK Driving License and access to a car/transport

**Desirable Experiences and Character Traits:**

– Strong understanding of elite level rugby (preferably with some playing experience)
– Strong understanding of youth development, coaching methods and physiology
– Organised, efficient and open-minded in all aspects of work
– Able to take initiative when working independently or as part of a team
– Capable of leading/managing members of staff as well as an entire programme of work

**Salary:**

– Dependent on experience (in the region of £15,000 – £20,000/annum).
