The stunning coastline of Bamburgh will come alive this summer as the Bamburgh Beach Rugby Festival launches on Saturday July 12, bringing a vibrant mix of rugby, community, and celebration to one of the North East’s most iconic locations.

Hosted by Newcastle Rugby Foundation, in partnership with the North East Combined Authority, Bamburgh Castle Estate, and Northumberland Rugby, the festival marks a major milestone in the build-up to the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, which arrives in the region this August.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Bamburgh Castle, this free, family-friendly event promises fun for all ages – whether you’re a rugby fan, beach lover, or just looking for a fantastic summer day out.

Festival Highlights:

  • Beach rugby taster sessions for all ages and abilities
  • Skills challenges and fun games
  • Face painter and balloon modeller for younger visitors
  • A chance to learn, play, and be part of the rugby buzz building across the region

As the official Community Development Programme Partners for the tournament, Newcastle Rugby Foundation is proud to be delivering events like this to make rugby accessible, inclusive, and inspiring for all.

“It’s a perfect opportunity to engage communities, celebrate inclusivity through sport, and offer a truly unforgettable experience in one of the UK’s most iconic locations,” said Melanie Magee, CEO of Newcastle Rugby Foundation.

“We’re excited to be kicking off this brilliant Beach Festival Tournament and look forward to hosting a really fun, family day inspired by rugby,” added Francis Watson-Armstrong, owner of Bamburgh Castle Estate.

Whether you’re having your first go at beach rugby or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Bamburgh Beach Festival is a must-visit event on the road to RWC 2025.
