Barrow excited for Gloucester clash

As the Falcons prepare for the return of Aviva Premiership rugby to Kingston Park this evening, one player particularly excited about the big game is Second Row Dom Barrow.

Asked about the club’s plans to set a record for the world’s loudest club rugby crowd, Barrow said the whole team were looking forward to hearing their home crowd to Bring the Noise.

“A noisy crowd makes a huge difference. It’s always great to have the fans behind you but to have them really making the noise as you’re coming towards the end of the game and you’re blowing a bit. It can be that one thing that just gives you the extra 10% and pushes you on.”

Preparing to make his eighth start of the season for the Falcons, Barrow will continue what has so far been a successful pairing at the centre of the scrum with former Leeds Carnegie team mate Calum Green.

“Me and Calum played together at Leeds and obviously again since he’s come up here and I enjoy playing with him. He’s a good grafter who puts in very workmanlike performances and is very consistent in that respect; you know he’s going to hit the rucks, make his tackles and the lineouts have been going well for us too.

“It’s always good when a team begins to get settled and you can start to build those partnerships, learn how people play and learn how to with each other. In terms of Calum and I it’s been nice to re-establish that pairing and hopefully that can continue.”

With the Falcons’ having beaten Exeter Chiefs 29-24 in their last Aviva Premiership match at Kingston Park, the team will be looking to get back to winning ways with tonight’s game.

Barrow commented: “From a team point of view we’ve picked up a few wins and hopefully we can build up that buzz and that winning feeling again. Although I felt like even when we were losing games at the start of the season we were going in the right direction, so if we can keep building on those aspects then hopefully the rest will follow.”
