Beardsley converts for Legends
Kingston Park will welcome a legend from the round ball game next Friday, with former Newcastle United striker Peter Beardsley joining the Falcons and Southern Hemisphere teams and taking kicks at goal during next Fridays Legends game.
Beardsley will join stars including Matt Burke, Jamie Noon and Terry Fanolua in the game which forms an unofficial curtain raiser for the sport’s most high profile week in the region and the three Rugby World Cup pool games taking place at St James’ Park.
The match marks a return to the Kingston Park pitch for Beardsley, who has ran out on it both as part of a Newcastle United legends team and as a goal kicker during a benefit game for former Falcon Soa Otuvaka, who sadly died of a brain tumour in 2003.
That night, the Newcastle United assistant coach shared kicking duties with Paul Gascoigne and he is looking forward to again being involved in a showcase raising funds for good causes. In this case the Wooden Spoon Foundation and Falcons Community Foundation.
Speaking to Falcons TV, Beardsley said: “I’ll hopefully be kicking some conversions, I was lucky to be able to do it about 10 years ago and it was a brilliant night.”
“I’m looking forward to doing it, with all the old players coming back; I think it is going to be really exciting for people who have grown up with the likes of Dave Walder and Michael Stephenson. That era was a brilliant squad of players so it will be a good night.”
