Bid for Lions and Falcons memorabilia

The items were unearthed as part of Newcastle Falcons’ recent stadium renovations, the first being a book by Lions great Sir Ian McGeechan (pictured).

Titled ‘So close to glory,’ it tells the story of the Lions’ 1993 tour to New Zealand, with a foreword by Scotland and Lions full-back Gavin Hastings. Both men have signed the book.

The second item also features a former Falcons and Lions star, with a signed copy of Alan Tait’s autobiography.

‘Rugby Rebel’ tells the tale of a man who played for Great Britain in both codes of the game, helping the Falcons to win the Premiership title before going on to coach the club.

The club will be holding regular auctions of such items moving forward, the third and final item of this initial batch of memorabilia being a match-authentic white Nike Newcastle Falcons shirt, as worn by flanker Ed Williamson during the 2007-8 Premiership season.
