Blair back Falcons for final game of season
Harlequins visit to Kingston Park on Saturday (KO 3:30pm) sees the Falcons sign off the 2014/15 season and Scrum Half Mike Blair, is hoping to have a final involvement in front of the home support, after returning to action last weekend against Sale.
The former British & Irish Lion will make a switch to Glasgow Warriors over the summer but before hand is pleased that if selected, he will have an opportunity to sign off at home.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Newcastle, especially this year with the pitch at Kingston Park and I’m really pleased that I might have the chance to play on that in a Falcons shirt again.”
“I didn’t know what the thought process would be on getting me back involved for these last few games, as I’m not here next season and Ruki and Tane are, but I was really pleased to get back involved against Sale.”
“It would have been nice to win, but it was a good run around so I’m hoping I can maybe have a last run around out in front of the home fans.”
Looking to sign off with a win after narrowly missing out in their last two Aviva Premiership fixtures, Blair says a victory would add substance to the improvements made by the team this season.
“We’ve fixed a lot of issues we had last year, but the closer you get, the finer the margins are and it gets more difficult to put your finger on what it is that you need to address.”
“I think about that a lot, what the difference is from that team to that team and sometimes it’s just little things, some games it’s a little bit of luck or a refereeing decisions, I think we have had one or two of those this season. One or two of them have been we have not closed them out or we’ve not done well enough and other ones are just 50/50 games that one team has to win.”
“You put all of them in our favour and you start to move up towards eight or nine victories and you are a lot more comfortable with how you talk about the season.”
“I think it’s a culmination of a lot of things but with this group of players, a lot of them are staying on for next year and will learn by these things and will work them through with Dave and Wellsy and hopefully if we are in the same situation, they will have learned to get that half a percent or one percent closer to get the wins.”
“It’ll be a good game this weekend, Harlequins play a good brand of rugby and they won’t be coming up and lying down to let us have a nice finish to the season. So it should be a good game to watch.”
