Blair backing Falcons to build on league wins
League victories against Exeter, London Welsh and Gloucester Rugby have moved the Falcons into tenth place in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and have put the club within striking distance of a tightly packed midtable, if they can maintain their current form.
Blair said: “The Gloucester game was good and I thought we played some of the best stuff we have all year into that wind, we cleared our lines well, we had tempo on the ball and there were some really pleasing aspects.”
“We can’t rest on our laurels though and imagine that we have cracked it, there is still lots of things that we need to keep working on and everyone is aware that if you’re not right up at the level that you need to be then we will lose games.”
Facing a Sale side who themselves go into the fixture in good form, Blair expects both sides to produce an entertaining match.
“Sale have gone well, they’ve had two really good wins on the trot against Quins and London Irish, when you look back at their games they like to move the ball around but they have some guys upfront who can cause some damage up as well.”
“They will come here knowing we are a side who are playing some reasonable rugby and who are defending in a gutsy and skilful manner so hopefully we’ll make it hard for them to break us down.”
“Sale will be confident though, they have some confident operators who have played the game at a very high level like Danny Cipriani and Dan Braid but hopefully you can have two teams who are keen to give the crowd, who were brilliant on Friday night.”
A season high crowd against Gloucester saw 6512 people roar the team on against the West Country side and Blair is hopeful of more of the same this weekend.
“Last Friday was brilliant, the staff at the club put on a good campaign to bring in the crowd and it looked brilliant. The South Stand was packed out and we scored in front of that which was great. The noise for that was brilliant. I’ve played in front of 70, 80 thousand before but that noise created at that moment was absolutely fantastic.”
“Hopefully if we can get those people who were around on Friday back on Sunday we can have another good crowd.”
