Brocklebank: Crowd can energise us against Bath

The fan-assisted Falcons were only three minutes away from a famous victory over Exeter Chiefs last Sunday despite playing for an hour with one man fewer than their opponents, with the Kingston Park faithful cranking up the volume.

Prop-forward Brocklebank was among the players feeding off the crowd’s input, saying: “Our fans make such a difference to us – one million per cent!

“When you’re finding yourself in a bit of a rut or you’re having a tough time – like being a man down for 60 minutes against Exeter – just getting that energy from the crowd is so important.

“When you hear that cheer of encouragement it picks you up off the ground and gets you to that next tackle, and you stand taller knowing you’ve got them on your side.”

Losing 15-14 last time out but earning plenty of credit in defeat, he added: “I was speaking to a few of the fans after last weekend’s game, and while they shared our disappointment about not winning, they could see the good elements of the performance.

“There was nobody getting any grief from the stands, and just having that support really does lift you during those times in a game when you need an extra push.

“Really, on behalf of the lads I just want to say thank you for that backing against Exeter, and if we can get similar this weekend then I think we’re in a great position to make it count.”

The Falcons were 20-13 winners the last time they played Bath, with a round-two victory in September.

Brocklebank said: “A bit like ourselves, Bath have a few points to prove at the moment.

“I imagine they’ll want to get one back over us after we went down there at the start of the season and beat them at home.

“We almost turned our season around last weekend by beating Exeter, only to lose it right at the end, but with the way we performed for the majority of the game I truly believe this isn’t going to be Bath’s week.

“We’re going along the right lines, and even with the narrow last Sunday the feeling among the boys is really good. We’re not far away, and the boys have it in them to sort out that last little bit.”
