Buist Returns for World Cup Role

Monday 12 January 2015 Written by: Adam

A new role aimed at managing the Foundation’s involvement in the 2015 tournament and creating a legacy for the game in the North East after, Buist will be calling upon his experiences as both a player and as a RFU development officer to successfully fulfill the role.

Speaking on his first day in the new job, Buist said: “The North East will play a major role in the success of England 2015 with three massive pool games being held at St James’ Park. It will be my role to promote that and to allow the Foundation to capitalise on the events and to raise funds to allow it to continue its excellent grassroots programmes.”

With the role being joint funded by the Community Foundation and Newcastle City Council, Buist will sit in on meetings and organising committee’s tasked with delivering an excellent experience to the tens of thousands of fans expected to visit the city whilst the world cup is in town.

“There will be a huge influx economically to the city so I’ll be providing a different perspective on ideas on how to capitalise on that and make the experience the best it can be. It is a great city that has a history of hosting great events so we just want to make sure that fans have a great time and will remember Newcastle.”

A key event in both adding to supporters experience and raising funds for Wooden Spoon and the Falcons Community Foundation will be the Legends game to be played on October 2nd this year, the day before South Africa meet Scotland in the first of the city’s game.

It promises to be an exciting evening and one that Buist is enthused about getting involved with.

“The idea is we will be inviting Falcons legends of yesterday, there are quite a few who are already on-board and it is going to be exciting. Not only will it be a good game against a Southern Hemisphere team, which a number of big names are already a part of, but it will also just be good to have those players back in the city where there is a lot of history which will provide a fantastic experience.”

With former Falcons Carlo del Fava and Michael Stephenson already having confirmed their involvement, further announcements on the players participating will be made in the coming months, with tickets due to go on sale shortly.
