Chick and Hammersley on Pool 1 culmination

Simon Hammersley and Callum Chick had different reasons to be happy with their performances in Saturday’s European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture against Brive Correze at Kingston Park.

Fullback Hammersley was in fine attacking form, tormenting the Brive defence with a series of purposeful runs and grabbing two of his side’s four tries, the final of which saw the 22 year old finish of a well orchestrated team try, with a superb piece of individual skill.

For Chick, the match saw the England U20s squad member make his first senior start at Kingston Park, following his first senior start in Sochi a week earlier.

Part of a back row made up of home grown players, Chick was impressive as he continues his development into a professional rugby player, a journey that he started with Ponteland RFC and in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

The pair spoke with Falcons TV after Saturday’s game and gave their thoughts on the afternoon’s work.
