Callum Chick and Joe Craggs are ready for a run out this weekend, as part of the clubs squad for the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s after an extensive pre season.

The pair, who have both earned the opportunity to be full time members of the club’s senior academy this season, have been training hard alongside the rest of the squad and have been handed an opportunity to impress fans and coaches in the summer 7s showcase.

Speaking to Falcons TV, Chick said; “Training has been going well, we’ve had our first session before and we’re just looking forward to getting to playing again because it’s been a while and to break up the fitness work.”

With the profile of the tournament raising year on year, it gives the pair a chance to play on a big stage with Craggs feeling this helps in the psychological development of young players.

“Playing in something like this boosts your confidence, it makes you believe in yourself a bit more and believe that you are good enough to play where you are. It’s our first Premiership experience this weekend and it’s a real confidence booster to have in the back of your mind to know that you’ve played at that high level.”

With a good crowd expected to be in attendance on Saturday, the duo are looking forward to that experience and getting a first opportunity to play in a big event that is easily accessible to friends and family.

“A big crowd helps massively, especially when its local. All the crowd want to see you do well, it helps you play your best performance.” said Craggs.

Chick added, “It pushes you that little bit more, its like an extra person playing for you and it keeps you going when you are in a hole.”
