Chick Named For England U20s

Tuesday 19 January 2016 Written by: Adam

Newcastle Falcons Senior Academy player Callum Chick was this morning named as part of the England U20 Elite Player Squad which will look to defend their Six Nations title this Spring.

The call up means that Chick, 19, will be eligible to play in all five of England’s games during the tournament, including the fixture against Ireland U20s at Kingston Park Stadium on Friday 26th February.

Kicking off at 6.05pm that evening, the game will be the second time England U20s have played at the Stadium in recent memory, with Chick’s Falcons team mate Zach Kibirige having turned out for his country to score one of ten England tries in the team’s last North East outing.

That match saw England demolish their Welsh opposition 67-7 thanks to an impressive performance, which included a superb solo try on home territory from Kibirige.

This year’s U20s campaign will be led by Jon Callard, who steps in as interim head coach after former Falcon Ian Peel moved on to join the Saracens coaching team and to assist the England senior team as scrum coach for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations.

The squad ethos remains the same as Callard explains: “The mission for this group is to make other people shine. It is about players being individually the best they can be, making the others the best they want to be. This comes from having a strong work ethic and a team focus. We want to put the right processes in place to play exciting international rugby and to develop these aspiring international players for the future senior team.”

Last year’s Six Nations went down-to-the-wire with the game against France on the final weekend becoming a title decider. England’s 24-11 victory nudged them ahead on points, making it four title wins in five years.

Tickets for the England vs Ireland U20 game are on sale now and available to buy [online][1], in person from the Kingston Park Stadium Box Office or by calling the Falcons’ 24 hour Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060.
