Newcastle Falcons is pleased to announce that Callum Chick has become the second player this week to commit to Newcastle Falcons.

Number 8 Chick, who grew up playing for Ponteland RFC and is currently a member of the Gosforth AASE scheme turned away interest from a number of other top level clubs to sign for the Falcons, where he will become a full time member of the Falcons’ Senior Academy.

Chick will join the strong group of talented players which sits below the Falcons’ first team. Already this season four Senior Academy players have made their Aviva Premiership debuts in the form of Simon Hammersley, Sean Robinson, Chris Harris and Tom Penny, with many others having impressed during the European and LV= Cup competitions.

Academy Manager Mark Laycock said: “Callum first came onto the Falcons radar as a 12 year old at the Land Rover Cup which is one of the most popular junior rugby events to be held at Kingston Park each year. He was a member of the Northumberland School of Rugby programme and has represented England at Under 16, 17 and 18 level as well as making an appearance for the Falcons A Team during their November friendly against Sale.”

“He is not only a talented player but is also very dedicated and committed to his rugby and has natural leadership ability. We are very much looking forward to him training with the Senior squad once he finishes his A Levels.”

Chick said: “I am delighted to sign for Newcastle Falcons, I’ve been a keen Falcons fan from a young age and have always wanted to run out for the team at Kingston Park. This contract brings me a step closer to that dream.”
