Clean sweep for Carreras at End-of-Season awards
The Argentine international has enjoyed an incredible season that has seem him sit joint-top of the league’s try scorers, with 13 to his name.
Carreras was also named Player of Round 15 following his hat-trick against Leicester Tigers in an emphatic 45-26 victory over the champions, as well as claiming multiple try of the month awards.
In a presentation taking place on the pitch after the final whistle, the first award up for grabs was the Fans’ Try of the Season. Decided by a twitter poll from a shortlist of FOUR, which can be viewed **[HERE][1]**, it was Carreras’ try away at Northampton Saints that claimed top spot.
The superb solo effort earned 60% of all votes and can be viewed in all its glory **[HERE][2]**.
The award was presented by Dave Rogers from Hitachi Construction, and we’d like to say a big thank you to the club partner for all their support this season.
Next up was Coaches’ Player of the Season. A hotly-contested award but only one could be the winner. Again, it was the Tucuman try machine Carreras who took home the award.
Presented by Colin Hewitt from Ward Hadaway, Mateo’s player sponsor, we’d again like to say a big thank you to the club partner for all their support this season.
Lastly, Players’ player of the season – the one they wall want. This one was voted for by the Newcastle Falcons squad, and the winner by some distance was again Mateo Carreras, to take home the clean sweep.
The award was fittingly presented by none other than the club captain and soon to be retiring Falcons legend, Will Welch.
Thank you to everyone who stayed behind to join us in a reflection of this year’s campaign.
You stuck with us throughout and your support as always has been incredible.
We hope to see you all back for the next campaign.
