Clever Makes Strong Impression On Falcons Family

The final result may have been a frustrating one for Newcastle Falcons, but Friday night’s Kings of the North game also provided a lot of positives for the North East team; one such talking point being the try-scoring debut of Flanker Todd Clever.

Making his debut at Kingston Park Stadium less than two weeks after arriving in Newcastle, the USA international put in an impressive performance at Number 8, and even added his name to the score sheet for the first of the Falcons’ four tries.

Speaking after the game Clever said: “It was great. I’m still getting to know everyone’s name and a couple of the calls but they put me straight in and I wanted to answer the call and give it all I had.”

Despite his recent arrival to the Falcons’ set up, Clever’s experience showed as the Flanker played his part in a strong pack performance.

“You can tell the guys have been together and the hard yards they’ve put in during pre-season. My job coming in late is to be on the same page. We had some good moments and some poor moments.”

In a game that kept all 2,530 fans in the stadium on the edge of their seats, it was clear that Clever has already made a positive impression on the Kingston Park Stadium faithful, a feeling that is very much mutual.

“It was great to have the support coming out on home turf and you can tell how special the Falcons family so it’s good to be part of it.

“I made a point to have a lap and thank the fans and they were very welcoming. I’ve received messages on social media too and it’s great to be part of something so special and welcomed with open arms.”
