East Stand Bar Name Announced
After a fan competition which saw well over 200 entries, Newcastle Falcons can confirm that their first floor East Stand bar will re-open this April as The Tap & Tackle.
The name, a combination of the Tap, suggested by Jeff Ball, and the Scrum and Tackle, suggested by Kevin Barlow, represents terms used across both rugby codes, making it a perfect name for the home bar of both Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle Thunder.
Both Jeff and Kevin will receive a signed shirt as well as two free drinks in the bar per game at each home game during the Falcons 2015/16 season or Thunder 2015 season. Both will receive an invite to the bar’s exclusive opening night event at Kingston Park Stadium next month.
The Tap & Tackle is currently being refitted and will open in early April, in time for Thunder’s first Kingstone Press League One match against Barrow Raiders on Friday 3rd April and a live screening of the Falcons’ European Challenge Cup Quarter Final match away to Exeter Chiefs on Saturday 4th April. On Sunday 5th April the Tyne-Wear derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland will take centre stage on the bar’s screens.
From then onwards the bar will be open seven days a week, serving coffee and light bites as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day, with a range of events planned over the coming months.
The bar refit is being carried out by Jesmond-based design and build company Monument Limited which was founded by former Thunder captain Stephen Rutherford. Rutherford was one of only two North East-born players to appear in Thunder’s original 1999 Super League squad and has a long standing association with both codes of rugby.
The Tap & Tackle’s exclusive opening night will be held on Thursday 2nd April. Watch this space for opportunities to win invites to the event!
