People from across the North East have been getting up close to the biggest prizes in European club rugby as part of the Newcastle 2019 trophies tour, which began last Friday.

Both the Heineken Champions Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup are making their way across the region as part of a 55 event programme, which will introduce these magnificent pieces of silverware to the wider public.

Kicking off at a Newcastle City Council event hosted at Newcastle Civic Centre, the trophies then took pride of place in Newcastle Falcons’ fan plaza, ahead of their Gallagher Premiership Rugby clash against Sale Sharks at St James’ Park.

Having been seen by a huge audience of rugby fans at the stadium where they will be played for in just six weeks time, the trophies have since embarked onto the road, having already visited venues as diverse as RAF Boulmer, Blaydon RFC and Yarm Prep School.

The trophies have proven to be quite a draw already, with plenty of photos being taken, with the chance to win tickets to the European Rugby Challenge Cup final on May 10 up for grabs, for people posting pictures to social media and using the hashtag #Newcastle2019trophiestour

Set to visit businesses, rugby clubs and schools, there are also visits to an array of venues that the general public will be able to access.

In amongst the highlights still to come on the tour, the trophies will be in attendance at Middlesbrough FC’s clash with Norwich this Saturday, Newcastle Eagles’ BBL fixture against Manchester Giants on April 5 and Newcastle United’s game against Crystal Palace on April 6.

Before transferring to St James’ Park on Saturday morning, both cups will be on display at Newcastle’s Discovery Museum, with a trip to the city’s Grainger Market coming on Friday, April 12.

A journey to the borders will allow fans from further north in the region to get up close when the trophies take to the Melrose 7s on April 13, before returning to the North East for some final dates at the end of April.

Tickets for both finals are available to purchase by calling the St James’ Park stadium box office on 0344 372 1892 or by [clicking here][1]

Availability remains good for the European Rugby Challenge Cup final on Friday, May 10, while the final 1,000 public tickets for the Heineken Champions Cup final will be available to book from Friday, March 29 for those eager to be part of rugby’s biggest weekend.

To keep up to date with the two trophies journey across the region, follow the Newcastle 2019 Finals across social media.
