FALCONS ‘A’ DEFEAT REDS
A starting XV containing the likes of Phil Godman, Sean Brown and Tom Catterick took on a spirited Reds outfit with the Falcons running in six tries as a series of players look to stake a claim for selection in next weekend’s final Premiership clash of the season at home to Exeter Chiefs.
Dan Temm, Harry Bate, Sean Brown, Tom Catterick, Matthew Charters and Simon Hammersley all crossed for the visitors with the hosts to their credit responding with four tries of their own.
Kiwi back-row Temm got the scoring underway early on, taking a neat pass from Godman to touchdown, before burgeoning talent Brown sliced through Caledonia’s rear-guard thanks to Hammesley’s inch-perfect offload. It was soon 26-0 with Catterick notching up try number three for the afternoon following a line-break from Hammersley. Harry Spencer, who came on as a second half replacement during yesterday’s 11 try thriller at Adams Park, was the creator for the fourth score of the contest after his pass to Charters put the flanker clean through to make it 33-0.
The Reds came back strongly and reduced the deficit to 33-5 with the pack instrumental for their first score of the day. But back came the Falcons, and full-back Hammersley scooted in under the posts to make it 40-5. However with the breeze behind them in the second half, three tries in the last quarter of the match from Caledonia closed the gap to 40-22 with the Scottish outfit playing some excellent rugby on home soil as the referee brought play to a close.
