Falcons add trio to senior academy
Following successful trials throughout pre-season, Newcastle Falcons have signed centre Cameron Ellis, flanker Harrison Wood and prop Oscar Stott to their senior academy squad on one-year deals.
Centre Ellis (20) is at Newcastle University having attended Harrow School, and came through London Irish’s academy, helping them to win the Premiership U18s Academy League final in 2023.
Wood (18) is a Scotland Under-18s international who was born and raised in Edinburgh, representing George Watson’s College, Watsonians RFC and having the ability to play on either flank.
Completing the trio is loose-head prop Stott (22), who was capped by England Students in 2023 when they beat France away. The 6 foot 1 scrummager hails from York and also plays for Durham University in BUCS Super Rugby.
All three players have been with the Falcons throughout the bulk of their pre-season preparations, with director of rugby Steve Diamond saying: “They’ve worked really hard and deserve their shot.
“We’ll always keep an open mind on recruitment, we’ll cast the net far and wide and we’ll reward lads who come in and show us that they’ve got something about them.
“There’s a lot of hard work ahead for Cam, Harrison and Oscar to push on in this environment and take the next steps, but they’ve got a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to seeing how they progress.”
