FALCONS ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR NEXT SEASON
As the season draws to an exciting climax Newcastle Falcons would like to announce their intention to play the majority of games in the 2013-14 season at 3pm on Sunday.
After much discussion and feedback from supporters and in line with the club’s vision and values, it is felt that the community and the region as a whole across all age groups especially families are missing out on the opportunity to watch top class rugby at the Falcons.
Sales and marketing director Duncan Edward said: “The vision is to make Sunday rugby at Newcastle Falcons an integral part of your rugby weekend, and next season we will make a Sunday at Kingston Park an exciting occasion both on and off the field.
“With a range of activities and entertainment for all age groups coupled with great food and beverage choices, it will be a great event and location for you to see off your weekend in style.”
Many of the Sunday games will be preceded with community activities for all age groups to help us nurture the Falcons home-grown stars of tomorrow. The recent signings of six academy players is testament to the value in driving local rugby.
Community director Melanie Magee said: “Over the past few seasons we have seen up to 1,000 participants take part in each match activity, from festivals to pre-match coaching clinics.
“It is fantastic to see not only the great number of players involved, but the geographical variety of clubs, schools and individuals represented. From Berwick to Middlesbrough to Penrith, it’s clear to see that there is a great passion for rugby in the region.
“Playing our games on a Sunday will mean we can increase the opportunities for community groups to attend the matches, especially those from younger age groups and further afield. Filling our new family area in the West Stand with enthusiastic youngsters will not only provide a fantastic experience for the participants, but also ensure an electric atmosphere for our first team stars as they run out onto the Kingston Park pitch.”
Some Friday night games will of course take place and the exact timings of games will be dependent on fixture and television scheduling.
The club will continue to deliver excellence off the field and the corporate experience will as ever be the best in its field.
Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “We need to pack the ground and really get behind the team by creating ‘Falcons Sunday.’
“We are opening up the opportunity for all to come and see top class rugby in a family friendly environment.”
