Newcastle Falcons have unveiled an updated coaching structure for the 2015/16 season as the club aims to build on the foundations laid in 2014/15

As announced earlier in the week, John Wells will continue to hold the reigns as head coach at Kingston Park, and will now also take the lead in the club’s defensive matters, following Graham Steadman’s departure to Cardiff Blues.

Following an entertaining campaign that saw the North East club score 102 tries in all competitions, Dave Walder will once again take responsibility for the club’s attacking focus.

Taking responsibility for honing the skills of the Falcons squad, will be academy manager Mark Laycock and club stalwart Micky Ward, whose work made the Falcons scrum a potent weapon throughout the 2014/15 season and delivered hugely impressive completion statistics.

The evergreen Scott MacLeod becomes a player coach this season, joining the back room staff as a line out specialist while Dean Richards begins his new tenure as Director of Rugby overseeing the operation.

With pre season preparations beginning under the new look team’s tutelage; Richards is looking forward to seeing the club continue its rejuvenation.

“After making strides last season in the club’s development, I think we have the building blocks in place to continue that progress this season.”

“We have a good balance of experience, enthusiasm and with people like Marko and Scotty taking on new responsibilities; it’s an exciting new dynamic for the new season”
