FALCONS CONTINUE TO BUILD IN CUMBRIA
Newcastle Falcons’ work in Cumbria continues to go from strength to strength, with Cumbria Community Development Officer Keith Robinson receiving high praise for his work with St Oswald’s School in Kendal.
Teacher Laura Morris said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed working with Keith. They responding really well to him and the festival we took part in was great. We hadn’t been to a tag rugby festival before and the children loved it!”
St Oswald’s have been involved in the Aviva Schools Programme, Aviva Premiership Rugby’s key legacy project, which Keith has been running in the Cumbrian region for over six months. Now in its fourth season, the programme introduces more than 39,000 young people each season to rugby union through tag rugby, creating a vibrant and effective rugby legacy in England. Targeting new-to-rugby and non-traditional rugby schools, the Aviva Schools Programme provides five weeks of coaching and teacher training as well as grassroots club links and resources for the school to continue to play rugby in future.
As well as working for the Falcons Community Foundation on projects such as the Aviva Schools Programme, Keith coaches at the Falcons Academy’s Cumbrian satellite centre, where he is on the look out for the next generation of North West Rugby talent.
Keith’s presence in Cumbria has enabled the club to put increased resources into spotting and developing new players within that area of the country. The club is hoping that its Cumbria satellite centre will help to develop a number of talented local youngsters following in the footsteps of 2013-14 Player of the Season, Mark Wilson, who hails from Kendal.
