FALCONS CREAM OF THE CROP IN BAKE-OFF
And the burly bakers rose to the occasion as they cooked up 1,000 fairy cakes with the help of Sainsbury’s and Silver Spoon who supported the event held at The Beacon on Westgate Road.
Attended by BBC Look North, Sky Tyne & Wear and The Journal, towering lock Hudson, 30, said: “Restart is a great charity so I am pleased that Newcastle Falcons have got involved with this.
“I love been in the kitchen, but it has to be said baking is not my strong point being an athlete. I’ve had a bit of practice through the baking challenges that we have done at the club each week when one player gets picked at random to bake.
“Today I have brought with me a load of edible Falcons logos to go on top of the cup-cakes so everyone knows who we are!”
The Beacon on Westgate Road kindly allowed the use of their kitchen, which Hudson is grateful for.
He said: “We are very fortunate to have a great facility in which to bake in and we are delighted to be making an effort in aid of Restart in conjunction with the Rugby Players Association (RPA).”
After turning up the heat in the kitchen, the players raced across town to pre-assigned selling locations to raise as much money as possible.
Restart is the official charity of The Rugby Players Association, supporting ill and injured players during and after their professional rugby career. It provides financial, practical and emotional support to players and their families during difficult times, including help with the cost of medical treatment, rehabilitation equipment, counselling, education and career transition. As well as financial help, Restart is also there when players need support in coming to terms with a career-ending illness or injury.
