FALCONS GO HOME FOR CHAMPIONSHIP DECIDER

Richards cut a more upbeat frame to that of last week after seeing his troops win 15-6 on the day and 34-30 on aggregate to set-up a play-off final with Bedford Blues.

“I was more angry than disappointed after the first leg,” said Richards.

> “In some respects I could not be further away from that now. Our
> forwards really fronted up, they were extremely physical and put
> themselves about.

“Our lineout perhaps did not work as well as it could have done, but Leeds have functioned effectively there all season and we knew they would not make it easy for us,” added Richards.

A day that started with blue sky and sunshine turned to grey sky and rain right on kick-off, conditions that were not ideal according to the Falcons chief.

Richards said: “You have to be quite practical and adjust your game-plan to suit the conditions, and our guys did that quite well.”

The Falcons will play away at Bedford in the first leg of the play-off final on Thursday 23 May (kick-off 7.45pm) with the home leg at Kingston Park on Wednesday 29 May (kick-off 7.45pm).

There will be more reaction with Richards on Falcons TV later today.
