It was a mixed weekend for Falcons away on international duty with Michael Young’s England Saxons, Evan Olmstead’s Canada and Vereniki Goneva’s Fiji all enjoying victories, while Nili Latu and Tane Takalua’s Tonga narrowly lost in their match against Georgia.

The action got under way on Friday evening when the Saxons took on South Africa A in George.

Fighting back from 26-8 down to win 26-29, it saw the Saxons become the first English side to seal a tour series triumph that weekend, as the senior team completed an historic first series win in Australia with a 7-23 win in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, further West in the Pacific, Latu and Takalua’s Tonga lost out in dramatic fashion to the touring Georgian side, with a converted try in the dying seconds of the game through centre David Kacharava.

It was a better afternoon for Goneva’s Fiji who fought back from a 16-10 half time deficit to beat Samoa 26-16 and retain the Pacific Nations Cup.

Summer signing Olmstead started for Canada against Russia in Calgary in their second test match of the summer, a game where they overwhelmed the opposition with a comprehensive 46-21 win.
