Richards, who has now guided the Falcons to 14 wins out of 14 in all competitions, was frustrated with a series of second-half decisions made by Irish referee Eddie Hogan-O’Connell.
“We’ll have to look at the video and try and work out why some decisions were made,” said Richards.
> I thought we played well in the first-half and we looked reasonably
> good, but in the second-half some of the refereeing decisions upset us
> a little bit.
Sealing the bonus-point at the break by virtue of tries from Jimmy Gopperth (2) and Richard Mayhew coupled with a penalty try, the Falcons were unable to press home their supremacy in the second stanza.
Richards said: “We knew that Newport would be a tough test for us today, and we did our homework on them throughout the week.
“We know that we’ve got things to work on for next week, and we’ll have to see how we go in the next eight days.”
The Falcons welcome Newport to Kingston Park next week for the return match in Pool 4 of the British and Irish Cup.
