Descending on the Delta Force complex in Seaton Burn, it was also a chance for the new recruits to break the ice with their new teammates.
Among them were the four Scottish signings Mike Blair, Scott Lawson, Phil Godman and Fraser McKenzie who all pinned their colours to the Falcons towards the end of last season.
Former Sale flanker McKenzie, 25, believes the afternoon was a success, saying: “These team building exercises are massively important, especially when joining a new club.
“We did a session on the beach last week, and it’s a lot better when you have teammates encouraging you when it gets tough.
“It’s good for morale, and it’s almost like collective suffering when you are put through your paces.
“When it came to paintball it was forwards versus backs which probably a bad move as there was a lot of young backs!”
Scotland’s most capped scrum-half of all time Bair, 31, was also present for the paintballing session which took place in blistering heat.
The experienced campaigner said he is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead at Kingston Park.
“I’ve played professional rugby for around 11-12 years now, and you learn quite a bit through that, so hopefully I can pass some of that knowledge on to the younger guys,” said Blair.
He added: “But also I’ll be learning from the youngsters as well, because they are the guys that bring the youth and enthusiasm, so you’ve got to feed off that.”
