Falcons pass 20,000 mark for The Big One

The 5.30pm kick-off at the home of Newcastle United on Saturday March 24 has proven a big draw for North East sports fans, especially with no Premier League or Championship football that weekend.

The East Stand has almost completely sold out, while the Leazes East corner, Gallowgate East corner, Leazes paddocks and Gallowgate paddocks are already completely full.

Fewer than 100 of the cheapest £10 adult tickets remain on sale, the Falcons’ match preceded by a 3pm kick-off between Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Mick Hogan, commercial director of Newcastle Falcons, said: “We had set a pre-event target of 20,000 and it is great to have reached that mark a fortnight before the big day.

“We have to thank the rugby community from the North East and Cumbria for really getting behind this event, as well as Newcastle United’s fans and the wider North East public. The response has been outstanding, but there are still plenty of opportunities for people to get tickets.

“We have seen record corporate sales with 78 of the 79 executive boxes in the Milburn Stand already sold, and we have had to put new hospitality packages in place in other areas to cope with the demand.

“The next target we have set is 23,500 which would exactly double our previous record home attendance, 11,750 supporters having watched our Premiership victory over Bath at Gateshead International Stadium back in 1998.

“Doubling that figure would make a real statement considering it is the first time we have tried moving a home game to a big venue like this, and the busiest two weeks of sales are still to come on the back of our national TV advertising, a radio campaign with Heart and Capital, adverts on the Metro and at numerous other locations.

“The message is to book early as most of the areas which are not sold out are filling fast, and we look forward to what is shaping up to be a truly memorable day of rugby for the region.”

Tickets for The Big One at St James’ Park on Saturday March 24 are available by calling 0871 226 6060, [**clicking here**][1], visiting Kingston Park during office hours or from the Newcastle United box office.

Tickets will be available from St James’ Park on the day, but supporters can save £5 on each ticket by booking before the day itself.
