With just a week to go until Christmas, Newcastle Falcons players and staff spent Wednesday afternoon visiting local hospitals to spread Christmas cheer and give out gifts to the young patients they met.

Will Welch, Andy Saull, Adam Powell, Kieran Brookes, Dom Barrow Mark Wilson, Gonzalo Tiesi, Chris York, Sinoti Sinoti and Mike Blair went along to Newcastle’s RVI, visiting a number of wards including the Great North Children’s Hospital while Rob Vickers, Calum Green, Eric Fry, George McGuigan, Mark Irving and David Nelson visited Sunderland Royal.

The team took along signed team photos as well as selection boxes kindly donated by Blackett Walker and Falcons rugby ball key rings provided by Gilbert Rugby.

Melanie Magee, Head of Community and Marketing at Newcastle Falcons said: “Christmas hospital visits are an important part of our calendar at the club. The players really enjoy spending time with the children and it’s a great feeling to be able to spread some cheer at this time of year amongst the patients as well as the staff who do such a fantastic job for both the children and parents they work with.

“All of the staff were incredibly accommodating and I’d like to thank everyone we met yesterday for their time and help, particularly the play specialists who gave up their precious time to show us around.”
