Falcons set benchmark for loudest club rugby crowd
Newcastle Falcons supporters responded to the club’s call to “Bring the Noise” to their Aviva Premiership Rugby match against Gloucester Rugby in emphatic fashion on Friday night as 6512 supporters filed through the turnstiles at Kingston Park.
Having provided fantastic vocal backing to the team throughout the season, Friday’s game saw the club aim to establish a record for the world’s loudest club rugby crowd and with the assistance of Newcastle City Council, a reading of 118.5 decibels was recorded during Friday’s fixture.
This reading will now be submitted and subject to confirmation, Newcastle Falcons fans will be able to officially claim to be rugby’s loudest fans.
Newcastle Falcons Mel Magee said: “We asked the fans to bring the noise and they really did do that and more. The players to a man commented on how loud it was and it really helped them get the result in what were difficult weather conditions.
Thanks to all the supporters new and existing that turned up and really made the event last night.”
The Falcons are next in action at home on November 30th when Sale Sharks are the visitors in the Aviva Premiership.
Both sides go into the game on the back of good wins and will be keen to take bragging rights in a game that serves as a Northern Derby in the league and the Kingston Park team will be hopeful of more vocal backing.
