Falcons soar in recently released stats
Recently released statistics from Opta and Premiership Rugby show that Newcastle Falcons are making a big impact on the top flight of English rugby, with a number of players appearing across the league’s best stats.
Sunday’s man of the match Sinoti Sinoti is top overall for metres gained on the pitch, having wracked up an impressive 939 metres throughout the Premiership season so far , gaining an average of 78.25 metres per game.
In Sunday’s game alone Sinoti made 15 carries and 138 metres, second only throughout the weekend to Harlequins’ Mike Brown. Simon Hammersley was hot on Brown’s heels in third place though making 126 metres in the Falcons’ game against London Welsh.
Meanwhile Sinoti also tops the table for the number of defenders beaten throughout the season so far with 54, while Juan Pablo Socino also makes the top four having beaten 38 defenders so far this season.
In the Falcons’ own defense three of the league’s top five tacklers belong to Newcastle Falcons; Calum Green occupies second position in that table having made 145 tackles – 98% of those attempted throughout a season which has seen him start every Falcons Premiership game to date – while Mark Wilson and Ally Hogg follow close behind on 138 and 135 respectively.
Meanwhile, Falcons Scrum Half Mike Blair is ranked as second in the passing stakes having made 571 Aviva Premiership passes so far this season.
As domestic rugby takes its third break of the 2014-15 season, the Falcons will be looking to continue their current run of form as they face Newport Gwent Dragons at home in the European Rugby Challenge Cup (ko 3.15pm).
With the two teams only one point apart in pool three of the competition, Saturday’s game could be crucial to decide who goes through into the knock out stages of the competition.
