Will Witty expects a tough battle in the forward ranks when Newcastle Falcons face Worcester Warriors this weekend, as the Falcons take to the road for the second week in succession in Gallagher Premiership Rugby.

Speaking to Falcons TV the second row highlighted matching the effort of the Warriors forwards and seizing turn-over opportunities as key areas for this weekend’s match.

Witty said: “Worcester like to dominate sides up front, they have a physical pack and it’s all about us just making sure we front up this week and that we match them physically to knock them back and get ourselves on the front foot. That’s what we are going to be trying to do.

“You’ve got to be patient in defence and if that means fighting out those 20 or 30 phases then so be it if that’s what it takes to turn the ball over, but as soon as we get the chance to get the ball and turn it over, we have to make sure we take the opportunity otherwise you end up defending for a lot longer than them and it takes its toll on you.”

Following on from securing their first point of the season courtesy of five tries against Leicester at Welford Road last season, Witty maintains that ambitions of enjoying another successful season remain strong and that this weekend is an opportunity to get back into good form.

“We know as a team we were capable of coming away with more points than what we did so this weekend is about improving on what we have done wrong.”
