Falcons Under 18s back in League Action
Newcastle Falcons Under 18s will take on Worcester Under 18s tomorrow (Saturday) at Kingston Park with a 1pm kick off in their penultimate game of the Under 18 Academy League campaign.
The Falcons ran out winners of their last home game against Yorkshire Carnegie just before Christmas in a great spectacle of attacking rugby.
Following the final whistle on Saturday, Newcastle Thunder Rugby League will take to the field for their pre-season friendly match scheduled to kick off at 4pm.
Academy Manager, Mark Laycock said: “There are some enforced changes to our squad this week with several players being rested ahead of their North of England Under 18s training day on Sunday, which will be held here at Kingston Park.
“There is good representation from the region in the North squad and hopefully some of them will go on to play for England Under 18s Clubs and Schools, as Tom Penny did two years ago.
“After the training day, the North of England will play Worcester Under 18s in a warm up game on the 8 February before their Divisional Festival on the 20 – 22 February at Loughborough University. It is great for the club to be able to welcome the best young players from across the six northern counties to train on our new pitch and use our facilities.
“Looking back to our last League game against Northampton we took a big step forward as a group and proved to ourselves that we can defend well if we put our minds to it. The players know that they will have to do the same again this week in what will be a very physical encounter.
“We have to front up and play to our strengths in attack from the first whistle by doing the simple things well. When we do that we cause teams problems because there is so much talent in the squad and it is exciting to see”.
