Fan Forum A Big Success
Over 120 people were in attendance last night at Newcastle Falcons’ most recent Fan Forum event.
The evening gave fans the opportunity to hear from and pose their questions to Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards, Managing Director Mick Hogan and Club Owner Semore Kurdi.
The first, and arguably biggest announcement of the night, was the news that Dean Richards has agreed a new deal which will keep him at the club until at least 2018. Click here for the full announcement, which was met with a round of applause at last night’s event.
The Director of Rugby then went on to exclusively announce the signing of Tongan prop Taione Vea from London Welsh, a player that he believes will be an excellent addition to the Falcons squad whose game suits the Kingston Park Stadium pitch well.
The event was then opened to questions from the floor, with all topics covered from Premiership Rugby’s new deal with BT Sport, the top flight salary cap and the structure of next season around the Rugby World Cup, to bar queues, ticket sales and the recent whereabouts of Flash the Falcon.
The panel also spoke briefly about a number of new signings, including England Sevens star Marcus Watson, who Richards believes has a bright future in the 15’s game.
Richards then went on to speak about a number of his current players, including Mark Wilson and Will Welch – both of whom Richards said will go on to play for England and are more than capable of making a mark for their country – and Tom Catterick, whom the Director of Rugby was filled with praise for before referring to as the club’s long-term future at 10.
Off the field, Hogan spoke of the club’s work to improve not only match day facilities but also service, with a number of additional options for bars currently being investigated.
With over 90 minutes of questions answered by the panel, the tone of the evening was largely positive, with much talk about the club’s new and entertaining brand of rugby and ongoing improvements being made to the match day experience.
