The 18-year-old second-row led his side to victory over Worcester in the AASE bowl final, with the last kick of the match deciding the outcome of the contest.

A brace of tries from Ben Wilkinson, along with tries from Aston Whitlow and Callum Chick were almost enough for the win, but it needed a 30 metre penalty from full-back Dan Marshall on the last play of the game to seal the title for Gosforth in their first season back in the AASE League.

“It was a massive occasion for us and a nerve-racking experience at the same time as a lot of us had never played in a stadium like Allianz Park before,” said Snowdon, who recently penned professional forms with Newcastle Falcons.

“Thankfully Dan Marshall came up with the goods right at the end and it was a fantastic feeling following the game,” he added.

Falcons academy manager Mark Laycock works closely with Gosforth Academy on a consistent basis to give youngsters the best possible chance of honing their skills on the big stage.

“The majority of the academy lads are on the AASE Scheme at Gosforth which helps with creating a really good team spirit at the Falcons,” said Snowdon.

He added: “The partnership between the Falcons and the AASE Scheme is vital for budding youngsters to get picked up by teams like Newcastle Falcons.

“I’m delighted to have signed a contract with Newcastle and hopefully in a few years’ time I can be challenging for a place in the first team.”
