Food donations being taken at Friday’s game
Donations will be accepted next to the doors at the end of the West Stand from 6.45pm until half-time.
A regular feature outside St James’ Park on Newcastle United match days, the Benwell-based food bank works to address food-poverty throughout inner City wards, but primarily in the west of Newcastle and its adjacent neighbourhoods.
The Foodbank operates in partnership with the faith community, the Trussell Trust, anti-poverty groups and philanthropists who are dedicated to relieving hunger for people in need.
Newcastle West End Foodbank (WEFB) will also be at Kingston Park for the regular-season finale against Wasps on Saturday May 5.
In its first year of opening (April 2013 – March 2014) WEFB issued over 13,000 food parcels. All clients are assessed by authourised agencies who issue vouchers which are then by redeemed by clients at WEFB where food parcels are dispensed.
The Foodbank service provides vital sustenance for families and individuals struggling on a weekly basis to feed themselves and their families.
On average in 2017 the food-parcels issued by WEFB fed 1,020 people a week, 450 of them being children. In response to this increased demand for food assistance WEFB now provide 250 clients with hot meals and soup while attending centres for food parcels.
