Foundation Festivals Continue to Thrive

The latest successful pre-match festival organised by the award winning Falcons Community Foundation took place before last weekend match against Northampton Saints, with teams of players from the Under 13 – Under 16 age groups taking part in a 7s tournament.

In all, over 250 children spread across a total of 25 teams, played matches across the Kingston Park and Bullocksteads facilities over the course of three hours on Sunday morning.

During the event, Falcons Players Mark Irving, James Christie, Chris York and Zach Kibrigie were on hand to speak to the coaches and players of the tournament and give advice for future rugby stars.

In the U13 tournament, Morpeth RFC ran out narrow victors against Northern RFC, in a match played at half time on the main pitch while Northern themselves won the U14 age group tournament.

In the U15 competition, Durham City RFC’s team was the winner with the final U16 tournament being sealed by the team from Novocastrians.

Following the tournament, all the participants received complimentary tickets to to watch the Falcons Aviva Premiership match where they played a full part in creating an electric atmosphere.

Falcons Community Foundation Director Melanie Magee said: “The Saints game was our second festival of the season and we were delighted to welcome teams from clubs as far away as Cumbria and Teesside who played against clubs closer to home.

“It was an excellent morning and I’d like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers and referees who made the day possible. We’re already looking forward to our next match day festival.”

The next match day festival takes place at the game against Sale Sharks on November 30th with the Under 7 and Under 8 age groups taking part.
