Free Clash entry for Falcons Season Ticket Members
Kingston Park Stadium plays host to varsity rugby on Wednesday evening as the annual “Clash of the Titans” match between Northumbria and Newcastle Universities takes place at the ground (KO 19:30)
A highly competitive fixture between two fierce rivals, the clash is one of the most hotly anticipated events in the universities’ calendars with a high quality game in prospect, which this year is complemented by a women’s rugby fixture between Team Northumbria and Edinburgh University at 17:30.
For the first time Newcastle Falcons season ticket members are being given the chance to attend the evening free of charge with seating available in the East Stand for both games, which can be booked by calling the stadium box office on 0871 226 6060.
A Falcons player with recent experience of the fixture, second row Will Witty, says it is a game that will give a real buzz to the players taking part and one that provides vital experience for anyone aspiring to carve out a career in the game.
Witty said: “It’s good to be part of the games between Newcastle and Northumbria, and the atmosphere with all the students there is class. You get a real buzz as you run out and are playing. It’s a bit different to a normal crowd, but it is all in good spirits.
“The opportunity to play in front of a fairly big crowd that is as vocal as that is a really good one and it means that if you get the chance to push on and play at the higher levels, you’ve got a bit of experience of that atmosphere.”
“There is a massive rivalry between the two, so anyone who is in those teams will have the adrenaline pumping as kick-off approaches.”
