Gallagher Premiership 2021-22 fixtures announced

Tuesday 13 July 2021 Written by: Adam

The Kingston Park Stadium clash is a 3pm kick-off and will be shown live on BT Sport, with title-winning Quins Mike Brown and Nathan Earle in contention to face their former club after making the summer switch to the North East.

Round two brings a trip to Bath, while the Falcons’ third assignment of the coming season is at home to Wasps before a round-four trip to newly-promoted Saracens.

Bristol Bears head north in round five, followed by Gloucester away, before the Falcons enjoy a free weekend in round seven due to the odd number of teams in the division.

TV picks have been confirmed for the first seven rounds of the Gallagher Premiership, with the opening-weekend visit of Harlequins and the round-four trip to Saracens the only Newcastle games selected by BT Sport in that block.

All games after round seven are listed as ‘weekend of’ pending future TV selections, with notable dates including a northern ‘derby’ at home to Sale Sharks around the Boxing Day period.

The new-year window brings a trip to Leicester Tigers, while the closing stretch of the season sees the Tigers heading to Kingston Park in the penultimate round, followed by a trip to Northampton on the final day of the regular season on June 4.

Supporters are advised that details regarding season ticket membership packages for 2021-22 will be forthcoming in the very near future, bringing the most cost-effective way to follow the Falcons and enjoying additional great benefits. Details of the European Challenge Cup and Premiership Rugby Cup competitions will be announced by tournament organisers in due course, with home group stage games in both set to be covered by season ticket membership.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “The announcement of the fixtures is always a big day for the club and our supporters because it allows us to put some meat on the bones of the season.

“We know we’ll play everyone twice, so nothing changes in that sense, but it just helps to build the excitement and anticipation for what promises to be a fantastic campaign.

“Having the champions at home in week one is absolutely tremendous because we can start the season with a bang – testing ourselves against the best.

“We defeated Harlequins at home last season, so in that sense the game holds no fear for us, although clearly we have huge respect for them.

“Having Sale Sharks up here around Boxing Day will be another big fixture – a Premiership semi-finalist and our closest geographical rivals in the league – and it just brings home the quality of the league when you look down the list and see the standard of teams you’re going to be up against week in, week out.”

Newcastle have announced six signings to their first-team squad for 2021-22, the Harlequins duo of Mike Brown and Nathan Earle being joined by Worcester pair Richard Palframan and George Merrick, Connacht prop Conor Kenny and ex-Ulster lock Matthew Dalton.

Six members of the famed Falcons academy have also graduated onto full-time senior academy contracts, with Mark Dormer, Ewan Greenlaw, Marcus Tiffen, Louie Johnson, Guy Pepper and Ollie Fletcher all signing up.

A summer of stability has seen Richards keeping hold of and even agreeing new terms with many of his key men, with England’s Adam Radwan, Jamie Blamire, Callum Chick and Trevor Davison all lining up again following their summer exploits for the national team.

“We’re pleased with the squad we’ve put together, and have added quality and experience to what was already a very solid foundation,” said Richards.

“I’m really excited about seeing what this group can achieve together over the course of the season, and of course looking forward to seeing as many of our supporters as possible throughout the campaign.”
