GIANT BACK-ROW PENS FALCONS DEAL
31-year-old Taulava is the second new signing to be announced in the build-up to the 2014-15 season after Leeds Carnegie lock Calum Green agreed to make the switch to the North East earlier this week.
The Tongan No.8, who stands at a frightening 6’5” and weighs in at over 20 stone, has made nine appearances for the Warriors this campaign, including eight in the Aviva Premiership.
English qualified, Taulava will join Dean Richards’ side on the back of two seasons with the Sixways club in which time he established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Worcester contingent.
Crashing over the whitewash three times in Warriors colours, Taulava had previously enjoyed stints at Taranaki and Rotherham Titans before earning himself a move to the Aviva Premiership with Worcester in the summer of 2012.
“I’m really looking forward to my move to Newcastle Falcons and I’m excited at the prospect of playing under Dean Richards,” said Taulava.
“I like the philosophy of the Falcons and when I spoke to Dean I was impressed with the club’s plans for the future.
“There is a good mixture of both youth and experience in the squad, and I hope that my experience can complement those talented youngsters coming through,” he added.
“Semesi is a quality addition to the back-row, and he gives us considerable power upfront,” said Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards.
“He is another great signing as we strengthen our squad ahead of next season,” he added.
