Girls festival a great success
As Newcastle Falcons prepared to face London Welsh last Sunday, Kingston Park’s main pitch played host to an Under 15 girls rugby festival.
Teams came from Morpeth, Tynedale, Sunderland, Novos, Rockcliff, Blyth, Bishop Auckland, Jarrovians and Horden to take part in the festival, which was a huge success.
The festival, which was run by the RFU and supported by coaches from the Falcons Community Foundation, saw Morpeth emerge victorious after a close fought battle with Bishop Auckland, but everyone involved had a fantastic day.
The second half of the season will see the Falcons Community Foundation carry out even more work than before in the field of womens and girls’ rugby as a result of Premiership Rugby’s Rugby for All programme, supported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
The programme will support an increase in the number of women and girls involved in the sport while also promoting the game amongst black and minority ethnic (BME) groups, bringing a new generation of people to rugby union.
