Gorillas and Mowden in Sunday curtain raiser
Ex-military personnel will benefit from a Kingston Park curtain-raiser this Sunday when the Gorillas take on Darlington Mowden Park.
The 12 noon kick-off precedes the #GoodeSunday clash between Newcastle Falcons and Wasps at 3pm – the Gorillas side coached by former Falcons centre James Fitzpatrick and made up of players from clubs throughout the North East. Those clubs have been selling tickets for the Falcons’ Aviva Premiership encounter the same day, £5 of those sales going towards the 1820 Foundation.
The foundation, which is a registered charity, benefits ex-military personnel who are struggling with the transition to civilian life, addictions, homelessness and criminal activity. It also helps children who have lost family members during the course of military service and supports North East England-based community schemes.
Arun Malhotra, chief executive of the 1820 Foundation, said: “We are hugely indebted to Newcastle Falcons are accommodating us at such a key fixture. This event not only raises awareness around some of the key issues that North-East veterans face, but more importantly is an excellent example of how Newcastle Falcons continue to support their local community.”
